What Every Parent Should Know: Family Court, Custody & Emotional Safety

Far too often, families—especially in the Black community—enter family courtrooms unprepared not just legally, but emotionally. The custody system can be intimidating, complex, and biased. That’s why this upcoming panel event is more than just a legal forum—it’s a community lifeline.

On Saturday, July 26, HOT 106.5 and Power 106.1 are hosting a powerful and informative evening at the Farah & Farah Performance Studio. This free, family-friendly event is designed to equip parents and caregivers with critical tools to better understand and protect their legal rights.

I’m honored to join the panel as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, where I’ll be speaking alongside a seasoned Family Law Attorney. Together, we’ll offer a holistic look at what families need to know when navigating custody battles, co-parenting dynamics, and the child welfare system.

From a therapeutic lens, I’ll be unpacking the emotional and psychological toll these legal processes have on parents and children alike. We'll discuss how systemic bias, gendered assumptions, and socioeconomic disparities play out in family court—and what you can do to stay grounded, empowered, and protective of your child’s emotional well-being.

You’ll leave with:

  • Legal knowledge of your parental rights

  • Therapeutic insight on how to reduce emotional harm in custody conflicts

  • Community resources for ongoing support

  • And of course, a complimentary dinner to enjoy while connecting with others who care deeply about family wellness and justice

This forum is especially important for Black families, who often face added scrutiny, generational trauma, and systemic obstacles in custody and DCF-related cases. Let’s break the cycle of silence and equip ourselves with the tools we need—not just to fight for custody, but to protect the emotional health of our children.

✨ This is not just a conversation—it’s a movement for healing, justice, and generational change.

🟢 RSVP now via Eventbrite to reserve your seat.

Let’s come together, learn, and advocate for our families.
